Darkwave Art
Matthew Vickerstaff graduated from Loughborough School of Art and design in 1999. After working freelance for a large number of record labels and bands, he was employed as Production Manager and Creative Director at Earache Records; this was followed by a brief period as a designer for Kerrang! Magazine. The numerous bands he has worked with include My Dying Bride, Godflesh, Carcass, Mendeed, Cathedral, Abigail Williams, The Haunted, Soil and Deicide, to name but a few. His work has been featured in magazines globally and he has also exhibited in Italy. Matthew now has his own company, Darkwave Art, based in Nottingham, which specialises in all things dark in graphic design and clothing. He has also established his own record label.
Exploring, exploiting and embracing all elements of the darker sides of life, Matthew's work takes its influences from human suffering, noise, death and religion. Surreal moments and beautiful landscapes emerge from this immersion of the mind and senses in this hellish, Stygian world. The artwork to be presented features digitally-manipulated photographic work (using Photoshop and Illustrator), as well as artwork using more traditional media made specifically for this exhibition.
Matthew is one of the three founders of the Danse Macabre annual exhibition.
