Thomas Goodwin
Thomas Goodwin is an illustrator, animator and film-maker who currently works for Kimeera, a production company in Grantham. He graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2006 having pursued an Audio Visual Production Degree. Thomas' time at Nottingham gave him the opportunity to refine and develop his illustrative and film-making skills, especially when producing short animations such as Hamish.
Thomas' work is primarily ink or acrylic based and explores themes such as isolation. His work is an amalgamation of influences from graphic novels and films. He is very influenced by the mundane of Chris Ware's work combined with the romanticism of Craig Thompson's graphic novels. This, with a huge love of films like Eraserhead, inspires the overall look of his work.
Thomas tends to have many different styles of illustrating and working. One example can be seen in the Sock Man paintings which comprise stark, black and white acrylic works, which investigate Thomas' own desires, frustrations, or anxieties. They each have running themes such as the overpowering rock walls, and black shiny globes which adorn the characters' backs. Overall, Thomas' work tends to be melancholic and self deprecating. Thomas is currently working on a magazine entitled Dry, a graphic novel called Mr Argotsky, with plans for another animation called Hill (the girl in the painting).
