Marianne Chinnery
(Nottingham Exhibition)

Since completing a BA (Hons) degree in Fashion Studies at the University of Derby in 1996, Marrianne Chinnery has worked within the fashion industry as a Childrenswear Designer both within retail and the supply chain whilst continuing to pursue a more personal route outside of work in the form of producing bespoke clothing designs for herself and friends. Marianne was inspired to go back towards a more artistic direction by the first Danse Macabre exhibition in 2007.

Marianne uses figurative imagery to explore human life, in particular looking at the fragility of our existence, especially the very fine line that runs between life and death and the ever present fear of what happens when our time runs out. She addresses this by focussing on elements of our bodily make-up, the decay and delapidation that comes with old age and by incorporating cell and bone structures into the pieces.

Marianne creates 3D low-relief pieces working with a variety of materials including sculpting clay, mixed and distressed fabrics, pva, mesh and wire to give her work depth.
